Birth

Hubert was born in Berne on May 11, 1906, son of Henry Alson Miller and Anna B. Gibbs.

Education

Hubert attended high school in Altamont and graduated from Cobleskill College in Cobleskill, Schoharie Co., NY.

Occupation

Hubert owned and operated Cole Hill Farm for 45 years and was active on the state and local levels in numerous agricultural organizations. He was a farmer who raised registered Holsteins, chickens & pigs. The pigs and chicken eggs were provided to the market.

Marriage & Children

Hubert married Frances Ima Becker, October 7, 1937, and they had ten children:

Organizations

He was a charter member of Foxenkill Grange and the Berne Volunteer Fire Co. He was also a member of the Hilltowns Senior Citizens, a 74 year member of Berne Masonic Lodge and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Retirement

In his retirement years he and Frances spent their winters in Florida. He was kept busy in his flowers and vegetable garden. Two weeks before his death he managed to help plant some gladiolas. He loved to give away his day lilies, raspberries and home grown vegetables. His heart was as big as his gardens.

Hubert passed away Saturday, May 12, 2001, the day after his 95th birthday, in Bassett Hospital in Cobleskill and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Berne.

Hubert H. Miller

BERNE — Hubert H. Miller of Route 443, Berne, was a farmer and active leader in a host of mainly farm-related organization. He was also a hands-on gardener, who loved his gardens. Mr. Miller died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at the Basset Hospital on the day after his 95th birthday.

Born in Berne, son of the late Henry and Anna B. Miller, he was a lifelong town resident. Mr. Miller was a 75-year graduate of SUNY Cobleskill. He owned and operated Cole Hill Farm for 45 years and was active on the state and local levels in numerous agricultural organizations.

Mr. Miller was a director of the New York State Artificial Breeders Association, the Albany County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, the local Holstein Club, the Forest Practice Board, the New York Certified Seed Growers Cooperative, the Empire New York State Birdsfoot Trefoil Association, and the Albany County Soil and Water Association.

He was a member of the Albany County Pomona Grange, Berne chapter of the Order of the Macabees, the Berne Historical Society, and the local Agway. He was a life member of New York State Agricultural Society, a Council member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and for several years a member of Berne-Knox-Westerlo School Board.

He was a charter member of the Foxenkill Grange and the Berne Volunteer Fire Company, a member of the Hillltowns Senior Citizens, and a 74-year member of the Berne Masonic Lodge. His retirement years were spent in his flower and vegetable gardens in both New York and Florida.THe loved his garden," said his wife. "He helped plant gladiolas just two weeks ago. He liked to give away day lilies and raspberries."

Survivors include Frances B. Miller, his wife of 64 years; his children and their spouses or companions: Ralph and Jeannette Miller of Berne; Harold Miller and his companion, Edward, of Mexico; Carolyn Wright and Robert Wright of Ravena; Marilyn Figel and her companion, Pete, of Berne; Huberta and Gerald Miller of Albany; Charles and Sandra Miller of Berne; Sharon and Michael Vincent of Berne; Donald and Theresa Miller of Berne; and Allen and Marie Miller of Berne; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Berne. Arrangements are by the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Berne. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Berne, NY 12023.
