Leona M. Trotter
Leona M, Trotter, a mother of five and also a foster mother, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at her home in Chestertown, following a long illness. She was 86. "She was the greatest mother on earth," said her daughter, Bernice C. Hart of Chestertown.
Mrs. Trotter was born in Rensselaer, the daughter of the late Clara Brothers and Fred Mergenthaler.
She worked for the Cooperative Extension of Albany County before retiring in 1982. Before retiring to Chestertown, she ran a coffee shop in Knox.
In her free time, she enjoyed the outdoors. "She was an avid fisherman," said Mrs. Hart. She is survived by her husband, Gordon J. Trotter of Chestertown; three daughters, Bernice C. Hart of Chestertown, Carol Warner of New York City, and Donna Ostrander of Knox; a son, Charles Palombo and his wife, Janet; a brother, James C. Petraske and his wife, Madeline, of Galway; 19 grandchildren, 36 great-granchildren, three great-greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A son, John Palombo, died before her. Funeral services were held Monday at the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont. She was buried in Knox Cemetery. ANNOUNCE ENGAGEMENT
Mrs. Gordon Trotter of Knox and Harry Palombo of Township announce the engagement of their daughter, Carol Ann, to Lewis Earl Tubbs, son of Mrs. Bertha Tubbs of Township and the late Fred Tubbs of Schenectady.
Carol is a June graduate of Berne-Knox Central school and is presently attending Felt and Tarrant School of Comptometery to Albany. Mr. Tubbs is employed by Walter Van Zandt, contractor. No date has been set for the wedding.
