Mr. Maynes graduated from Vincentian Institute in Albany in 1945 and from the Long Island Technical Institute in 1947. [2]

John married Margaret A. LaGrange and they had two daughters, Julie and Marcy; and two sons, Robert C. and Richard E. Maynes. [2]

Mr. Maynes was the proprietor of Buchanan Roofing and Sheet Metal Works in Albany. He retired from the state University at Albany as a roofer-tinsmith in 1990. [2]

Obituary BERNE John F. Maynes, 68, of Helderberg Trail died Tuesday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Mr. Maynes was born and raised in Albany, and he moved to Berne 22 years ago. He graduated from Vincentian Institute in Albany in 1945 and from the Long Island Technical Institute in 1947. Mr. Maynes was the proprietor of Buchanan Roofing and Sheet Metal Works in Albany. He retired from the state University at Albany as a roofer-tinsmith in 1990. Mr. Maynes was a Marine Corps veteran who served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He received the Governor DeWitt Clinton Award of New York State for outstanding community service. Mr. Maynes was a member of St. Bernadette's Church, and he attended the First Reformed Church of Berne. Survivors include his wife, Margaret A. LaGrange Maynes of Berne; two daughters, Julie Maynes of Albany and Marcy Grippen of Berne; two sons, Robert C. and Richard E. Maynes, both of Albany; a brother, James A. Maynes of Glens Falls; a sister, Nancy A. Meharg of Florida; and a grandchild. Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Magin & Keegan Funeral Home, 891 Madison Ave., Albany, and at 10 a.m. in St. Bernadette's Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Helderberg Rescue Squad, Berne, NY 12023, or to St. Bernadettes Chapel, Berne, NY 12023.
