He was born ca. 1837 on Travis Hill in Rensselaerville son of Lavinia Paddock and Abram Travis.

Justus Travis, age 23 of Athens, married Martha E. Van Loan, age 20 of Athens, at the First Reformed Church, Athens, Greene Co., NY on April 10, 1864.[1]
