Additional Research Notes
Note: There is doubt about his birthdate. The grave lists him in the 95 NYS Volunteers, not 93. A John A Taggart died in Altamont June 12, 1897 at the age of 51, but the obituary says he was interred in Gallupville. The 1890 Veterans Schedule gives him a Altamont Post Office Address - sergeant in 93 NY, enlisted Nov 10, 1861, mustered out June 9, 1865 - injured by falling tree top Wilderness battle - reenlisted veteran.
It is hard to believe there might be TWO John Taggarts from the same area in the same company with the same promotions, but the data are still confusing.
