Victor Haines was born in Durham, Greene County, NY in about 1844.[1]
Victor was born in Durham, Greene Co., NY in November of 1843, a son of Ward Haines and Lucretia Hudleston.[2] After the death of his father, his mother married Philander Wickham.

Before he served in the Civil War, he worked as a farmer.[1] At about 1860, Victor came to Westerlo and worked as a farm laborer on the farm of George Anderson and his wife, Elizabeth.

Additional Remarks: Enlisted at the age of 18.[1] Name also spelled Haynes, Hains, Hines. His older brother George Haines also served in Co K of the 7th Heavy Artillery Regt.[1] Victor and Charles were both wounded on the evening of May 31, 1864, a day which saw few casualties among the 7th HA Regiment.[1] Victor was shot in the right foot and George in the left hip.[1]"Promoted to Corp __ 1863 Received a wound in his right foot at the Battle of ____ Discharged May __1865 in consequence of his wound P.O.
