Alice (Haight) Tallman

Alice was born on September 29, 1860, in Westerlo to Richard Haight and Amelia Barton. Her family moved to nearby Berne by 1880. On November 1, 1885, when she was 24 years old, Alice married Austin C. Tallman. After their marriage they continued living in Berne where her husband farmed. They did not have any children. She was a member of the Huntersland Christian Church and can be found listed in church records.

Following Austin's death, Alice at some point moved to Middleburgh, Schoharie Co., and in 1930 she was living with her niece, Cora C. Billings Durfee, and her husband Wallace. She lived the remainder of her life in Middleburgh, and died there on March 17, 1950, at 89 years of age. According to cemetery records her cause of death was gangrene. She was buried in Huntersland Christian Cemetery with her husband an parents.

Obituary

Mrs. Alice Tallman, widow of Austin Tallman, died Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schmigel, where she had made her home for the past 12 years. Funeral services were held at the Palmer and Shaylor Funeral Chapel, Tuesday, March 21, at 11 AM, with the Rev. Leon R. Stapley officiating. Her remains were placed in the Middleburgh Cemetery vault for burial later at Huntersland. Mrs. Tallman was born at Westerlo Sept. 29, 1860, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Haight. Besides a niece at Medusa, she has no near relatives.

FARM FOR SALE - Take Notice: That I the undersigned administratric of the estate of Austin C. Tallman, deceased, late of the town of Berne, Albany County, N.Y., have been ordered to sell the farm land lately owned and occupied by the said Austin C. Tallman, lying in the town of Berne, Albany County, N.Y. consisting of three parcels, one parcel containing 77 1/2 acres of land more or less, and one consisting of 113 acres of land more or less, and one consisting of 3 acres of land more or less. All said parcels adjoining with buildings and appartenances thereon. Very desirable farm with two sets of buildings, fruit, etc. I shall sell said premesis at the front entrance of the County Court House in the City of Albany, N.Y. at public auction on October 18, 1918, at 12 o'clock noon, either separately or combined, to the highest bidder. Ten percent of the purchase price to be paid on the date of the sale, and the balance within ten days thereafter, at which time deed of the premesis will be delivered. By Order of Newton B.
