Birth

George E.[1] Post was born in about 1836 to Jacob Post (B. Aug 5, 1811, D. Dec 3, 1892)[2] and Eve Spateholte (B. June 9, 1813, D. May 24, 1851)[2].[3] He was one of twelve children.[3]

Marriage & Children

In about 1858, George married Sabrina D. Wilber (B. Nov 7, 1841, D. April 14, 1866)[2], whose parents are unknown.[3] They had three children:

  • Helen J. Post (B. Oct 7, 1859, D. Mar 20, 1860)[3][2]
  • Fletcher Post (B. 1861, D. 1916)[3]
  • Aurelius Post (B. April 1862, D. May 24, 1863)[3][2]

Additional Remarks: After the death of his younger brother William A. Post on June 7, 1864, George enlisted as a private at age 28 in the 21st Reg. Mass. Infantry. Civil War records at the time of his enlistment say that he was living in NYC at the time and working as a laborer. Why he enlisted in a Massachusetts regiment is unknown. He transferred twice and was in service for just over one year. It appears that he never applied for his Civil War pension.

Life

George worked as a farmer first with his father and brothers. After he married, he continued farming.[5] The 1860s were a tough time for George. First his two young daughters died and then in June of 1864 his younger brother William.[3][2] After returning from the Civil War, George's wife Sabrina died on April 14, 1866.[3] [2] George had her buried at Beaverdam Cemetery in Berne where his two young daughters and brother William were buried.[3][2]

At the end of his life he lived with his son Fletcher in Berne where they both were farmers.[7][9]

Death

George E. Post died on January 13, 1913.[3][2] He was buried at Beaverdam Cemetery with his family.[3][2]
