Camille G. Warner Dies

Camille Warner was born on June 4, 1894 to Homer and Mary Gallup on the old Altamont hill near the LaSallette Seminary. She grew up on what is not the Ed Pitcher farm. From that location she went to high school in Altamont and college in Oneonta where she obtained her teaching certification.

Many town residents will remember her teaching them in the one room schoolhouses that were scattered around the East Berne area. She started teaching by walking to the schools, then driving a horse and buggy, next using a bicycle, and finally, driving a car, being one of the first women to drive a care in the area in 1918.

Camille married Chester A. Warner on June 23, 1927, and continued to live in the village of East Berne where their children, Carl, Robert, Mary and Homer were born. In 1938 they moved to the Warner homestead on Warner's Lake where she was still residing when she died, December 16, 1978.

During the years she was active in manny comunity activities, such as the Eastern Star, St. John's Lutheran Church, Red Cross, and one of the founders of the Girl Scouts.

She was an only child and was happy to leave 10 grandchildren.
