Birth

Frederick Snyder was born July 3, 1927, in Westerlo to Walter Leslie Snyder and Christina Messer.

Education

He attended Greenville Central School in nearby Greene County

Military Service

Frederick served in World War II, with the U.S. Navy Seabees. He received the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal.[1]

Occupation

He worked for Clifford B. Hannay & Son, Inc., as an Automotive Maintenance supervisor and retired from there.

Marriage & Children

Frederick married Sally McCann and they had two children--Daniel and Diana Snyder.

Death

Frederick died on September 30, 2001, at St. Peter's Hospice, in Albany at 74 years of age.

Burial

He was buried in Greenville Cemetery in nearby Greene County.

WESTERLO - Frederick "Hoot" Snyder, 74 of Westerlo, died at St. Peter's Hospice Inn, Albany on Sept 30. (2001). He was born in Westerlo on July 3, 1927, son of the late Walter L. and Christina (Messer) Snyder. A veteran of World War II, he served with the US Navy Seabees and received the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal. "Hoot" had retired from Clifford B. Hannay & Son, Inc., where he had been the automotive maintenance supervisor. He was an avid hunter and a member for the Helderberg Hilltoppers Camping Group, a life member of the Westerlo Rod & Gun Club, a life member of the Westerlo Vol. Fire Co., a member of the Democratic Club and a American Legion Post 1493 in Voorheesville, and a past member of the Westerlo Rescue Squad. He also loved bowling and could always be found "tinkering." Surviving are his son, Daniel Snyder and daughter Diana Sikora and her husband Chris, his grandchildren, Jessica, Steven and Billy Sikora, his sisters, Mary Tompkins, Anna Kuhar and Catherine Latham; his brothers, George and Robert Snyder; A brother-in-law, Amos Hallenbeck; a sister-in-law, Lita Snyder; his Aunt Ethel Snyder ; and several nieces and nephews. His wife, Sally McCann Snyder; a sister, Viola Hallenbeck; and three brothers, Henry, John and Richard Snyder, are deceased. The funeral service was Thursday from the Cunningham Funeral Home in Green ville,. Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery, Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Hospice, the Westerlo Vol. Fire Co. or to the Westerlo Rescue Squad.
