Edward Seymour Feldmann was born May 18, 1932 in New York City.

Education

Edward Feldmann received his undergraduate degree from City College of New York in 1961 and a masters in business administration from the University at Albany in 1971.

Military

Edward S. Feldmann served with the Army from 1952-1954.

Occupation

Edward Seymour Feldmann was a writer and an editor with newspapers and magazines in New York City from 1954-1963. He was also an editor with the state Education Department in Albany from 1963-67; the associate director of public affairs for the state Department of Environmental Conservation in Albany from 1967-1991; and Fish & Wildlife public affairs director in Albany from 1991-1994.

He also was an outdoor broadcaster for radio station WQBK in Albany 1978-1990; an author, with others, of the 1989 book, Selling the Outdoor Story; columnist with New York Sportsman magazine since 1985; and Northeast Regional Editor of Outdoor Bytes. He was a writer with the Altamont Enterprise since 1994, and also contributed articles to professional publications.

He was the recipient of the Achievement Award Ducks Unlimited 1986; the Instructors Recognition Award from the Albany County Pistol Instructors Association in 1990; the Conservationist of the Year Award with the Albany County Conservation Alliance in 1986; a life member of the National Rifle Association; a member of Outdoor Writers Association of America; and a member of the New York State Ourdoor Writers Association from 1987 until the present.

Mr. Feldmann was a life member of the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association; the Capital District Pistol League, serving as president from 1990-1993; the Rod and Gun Editors Association of Metropolitan New York, serving as president in 1991; the Turnpike Rod & Gun Club Chief Pistol and Hunter Training Instructor in Westerlo since 1976; the Helderberg Rod & Gun Club, where he served as secretary from 1990-1994 and chief pistol instructor since 1985. He was also a member of the Friends of the National Rifle Association.

He included among his hobbies hunting, fishing and competitive pistol and rifle shooting.

Edward S. Feldmann married Myrna Slavin Feldmann, the daughter of Joel And Ida Ester Slavin;Their children were:

  • Charles P. Feldmann of East Berne
  • Dr. William B. Feldmann of Houston, Texas
  • Selma Ellis of Susquehanna, Pa.

Death

Edward Seymour Feldmann of Delanson, died Saturday, March 25, 1995, in Albany Medical Center Hospital. He is buried in the Cornell Family Burying Ground (Sometimes called Lilac Hill Cemetery) in Knox, NY. Inscription:

DELANSON Edward S. Feldmann of Delanson, died Saturday in Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Mr. Feldmann was born in New York City.

He received his undergraduate degree from City College of New York in 1961 and a masters in business administration from the University at Albany in 1971.

Mr. Feldmann was a writer and an editor with newspapers and magazines in New York City from 1954-1963. He was also an editor with the state Education Department in Albany from 1963-67; the associate director of public affairs for the state Department of Environmental Conservation in Albany from 1967-1991; and Fish & Wildlife public affairs director in Albany from 1991-1994.

Survivors include his wife, Myrna Slavin Feldmann; four sons, Joseph M. Feldmann of Delanson, Robert S. Feldmann of Dayton, Ohio, Charles P. Feldmann of East Berne and Dr. William B. Feldmann of Houston, Texas; and a sister, Selma Ellis of Susquehanna, Pa.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Ginsburg Memorial Chapel, 116 Everett Road, Albany.

Mr. Feldmann's body was donated for medical research.

A period of mourning will be observed at the Feldmann residence, 1549 Knox Cave Road, Delanson, Thursday through Sunday. Contributions may be made to the New York State Outdoor Writers Association Scholarship Fund, c/o J.M. Kelly, Treasurer, 4445 Dublin Road, Marcellus, NY 13108.
