Fabian Mitchell Bressett was born on January 6, 1842 and christened on June 24, 1842 at the Third Presbyterian Church in Albany, NY. He was a son of Fabian and Barbara Bresset who were both immigrants from Canada.

He married on December 31, 1874 at Westerlo, Mariette Cartwright who was born at about 1842.

This family apparently was in Albany at the time of Fabian's birth but went to New York City, or Brooklyn and remained there until sometime before 1880 when they came to Berne and Westerlo. It's not clear that the soldier ever lived in Berne or was ever in this area until after his service.
