Birth

James was born on February 16, 1750 in Greene County, NY, a son of Johannes Dietz and Anna Maria Oberbach [1]. His siblings were:

  • Elizabeth Dietz b. 1745 married George Ball
  • William Dietz b. November 8, 1747
  • John Michael Dietz b. March 10, 1754

Military

Jacobus served in the Colonel Peter Vrooman Regiment of Schoharie. His name appears on the list of bounties paid to the officers of Vrooman’s Regiment for March 21, 1782 that were paid in November of 1782. He apparently served 8 months in the war.

Marriage and Children

On April 3, 1781 he married Anna Elisabeth Ecker at the Schoharie Lutheran Church,Schoharie. She was born on September 1, 1760, a daughter of Peter and Elisabeth Rickert Ecker[1]. They had the following known children:

Death

James died on February 13, 1825 at Otsego County, NY and was buried at the Colliersville-Cooperstown Junction Cemetery. [2] His wife died on August 29, 1826 at Berne, Albany County[1] .
