Birth

Alexander was born in Guilderland at about 1804, a son of John Crounse and Elizabeth Livingston[1]. His siblings were:

  • Frederick Crounse who married Elizabeth Freyer[1]
  • John Crounse who married Margaret Van Norman[1] or Van Arnum
  • Peter Crounse who married Margaret Smith[1]
  • Conrad Crounse who married Nancy Ogsbury[1]
  • Barbara Crounse who married first a Van Valkenburgh, then Rev. Adam Crounse[1]
  • Maria Crounse married Peter Wormer[1]
  • Margaret Crounse married Teunis Hallenbeck[1]
  • Henry Crounse married Elizabeth Ward[1]

Occupation

Alexander was a tanner & Curer and a farmer as were most of his nearby neighbors

Alexander married at about 1829, probably In Guilderland, Mary (her name given as Margaret by Cuyler Reynolds in his biographical sketch in his book Hudson & Mohawk Families) Crounse who was born at about 1804. Their known children were:

  • Nancy Crounse b. about 1832
  • Catherine Crounse b. about 1834
  • Louisa Crounse b. about 1836
  • Matilda Crounse b. about 1839
  • Lucinda Crounse b. about 1841

Death

Alexander died after 1880 and before October 23, 1885 in Knox. His wife was not mentioned in his will but she was still living in 1880 and the will was written in 1872.
