Walter A. Coulter was born on May 22, 1922 in Schenectady, the son of the late Walter and Flora (Turrian) Coulter. His siblings were:

Education

Military

Walter Coulter served in the United States Army during World War II as a radar technician in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the American Legion Post 977 in Altamont.

Occupation

Upon leaving the service, Walter Coulter purchased a farm in Knox where he worked till he joined the New York State Office of General Services where he worked as a mechanic. He retired as a supervisor after 37 years.

Walter A. Coulter KNOX — Walter A. Coulter, a World War II veteran who worked as a farmer and mechanic and was active in community affairs, died quietly in his Knox home on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012. His death followed a long illness. He was 90.

He was born on May 22, 1922 in Schenectady, the son of the late Walter and Flora (Turrian) Coulter. He married Helen (Quay) Coulter on Christmas Day 1943.

Mr. Coulter served in the United States Army during World War II as a radar technician in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the American Legion Post 977 in Altamont.

He served as the town of Knox assessor for several years and was a member of the Knox Reformed Church, serving as both elder and deacon. He was also a member of the Knox Fire Department, the Plank Roaders, and the Old Men of the Mountain.

Upon leaving the service, Mr. Coulter purchased a farm in Knox where he worked till he joined the New York State Office of General Services where he worked as a mechanic. He retired as a supervisor after 37 years. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen; his son, Jerry Coulter, and his wife, Dina, of Knox; his daughters, Betsey Bartley and her husband, Richard, of Knox, Jill Fassett and her husband, Edward, of Duanesburg, and Pam Izzo and her husband, Michael, of Cohoes.

He is also survived by his sister, Alice Terry; his grandchildren, Noreen Hayden, Timothy Hofmann, Tracie Coulter, Deborah Diehl, Joseph Bartley, James Bartley, Matthew Fassett , and Andrew Fassett; and three great-grandchildren.

His daughter Jean Hofmann died before him as did his brother, Arthur Coulter, and his sisters, Helen Dierks and Vivian Quay. Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, Oct. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fredendall Funeral Home at 199 Main St. in Altamont. Funeral service will be on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Knox Reformed Church on the Berne-Altamont Road in Knox, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Memory Gardens in Colonie.
