Birth

Ruth was born February 16, 1904, in Indian Fields (now Coeymans), Albany Co., NYto John Frederick Chapman and Ellen Frances Wheeler. She grew up there and was educated in Indian Fields school.

Occupation

She was a homemaker, and worked as a domestic in private homes, retiring in 1985.

Marriage & Children

Ruth married Albert Steven Freleigh, a son of William Freleigh and Sarah Anna Carr circa 1922. They had three children, Blanche Ellen Freleigh, Elizabeth Jane Freleigh and a baby boy that was stillborn.

Death

Ruth died on January 7, 1994, in Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, NY at the age of 89. She was buried in Hannacroix Rural Cemetery in Dormansville

Obituary

RUTH FRELEIGH, 90 Ruth Freleigh, 90, of Diamond Hill Road, Delmar, died Friday in Our Lady of Mercy Center in Guilderland. She was born in the former Indian Fields in Coeymans and attended Indian Fields School. She was a homemaker, and also worked as a domestic in private homes in the Delmar area. She retired in 1985. Mrs. Freleigh lived in Delmar for 65 years. She was the widow of Albert Freleigh. Survivors include two daughters, Blanche "Peggy" Peck and Elizabeth "Betty" Dunston; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday in the Caswell Funeral Home, Martins Hill, Ravena. Burial will be in Hannacroix Rural Cemetery in Dormansville. Calling hours will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Capital District Deaf Center, Albany. Published in The Times Union (Albany, NY), January 8, 1994
