James H. Cavanaugh KNOX—James H. Cavanaugh, a lifetime Knox resident, is remembered for his sense of humor. "He always made everybody laugh," said his sister, Joan Maslowsky. "He was comical."

Mr. Cavanaugh died on Saturday, Jan. 22, at Memorial Hospital in Albany. He was 53.

Born and raised in Knox, Mr. Cavanaugh attended Berne-KnoxWesterlo High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and later in the U.S. Army Reserves, his sister said. Mr. Cavanaugh worked for the Albany County Highway Department, retiring in 2003. Before that he worked for the town of Knox, Mrs. Maslowsky said. She said he enjoyed his work.

Jim served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He worked for the Albany County Highway Department in Knox, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Boyd Hilton VFW Post and the American Legion Post in Altamont. He was predeceased by his mother, Helen C. Duell, in 1999.

He is survived by one sister, Joan M. Maslowsky of Knox; one brother, Robert D. Duell and his fiancee Erin Flannery of Knox; one daughter, Lisa Marie Cavanaugh; one nephew, Roger J. Maslowsky and one niece, Connie Carusone.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m.

Bradt Duell, 71, died suddenly Friday, February 5, 1999 at St. Peter's Hospital after suffering a stroke at home. Mrs. Duell was born in the town of New Scotland on July 31, 1927 to the late Henry and Florence Bradt. She spent most of her life in the Knox area and was a devoted homemaker. She was the wife of the late Stanley Duell who died in 1983.

She is survived by a daughter, Joan M. Maslowsky of Knox; two sons, James H. Cavanaugh and Robert D. Duell, both of Knox; a sister, Gladys Liddle of Altamont; two brothers, George R. Bradt of Altamont and Arthur D. Bradt of Berne; three grandchildren, Connie Carusone, Roger J. Maslowsky and Lisa Cavanaugh; two great grandchildren, Kendra and Devon Carusone and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry Bradt and a sister, Marion Bradt. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 9 at 11 a.m. at the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St. Altamont. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in the spring in Knox Cemetery, Knox, NY.
