Birth
Norman O. Bell was born April 6, 1915 in Knox, NY, the son of DeWitt Bell and Esther Gaige. Norman Bell was a grandson of Theodore Bell of Knox. His brothers and sisters were:
- Themla Finch of Oxford, Ala.
- Douglas Bell of Cape Canaveral, Fla.
- step-brother, James Fidler of Knox;
- step-sister, Jeanne Stewart of Rexford.
Occupation
He owned and operated the Bell Saw Mill in Knox for over 20 years, retiring in 1980. Before that he was a lumberjack and self-employed farmer.
Mr. Bell was a member of Guilderland Lodge 2480, BPOE, where he was named Elk of the year in 1994. He was a member of the New York State Lumberjack Association, the Helderberg Rod and Gun Club in Knox, and the Senior Citizens Bowling League in Guilderland, and a member and former state champion of the National Association of Black Powder Riflemen.
Marriage & Children
Norman Bell married first Helen Cook ( - 1977). He married second Anna Sacco Bell. Their children were:

- Thelma Patschureck of Knox
- Richard Bell of Clifton Park
- DeWitt Bell of Knox

- Joseph Sacco of Arlington, Va;

NORMAN O.BELL
KNOX —Norman O. Bell, 79, of Quay Road died yesterday in St. Clare's Hospital following a long illness.
He was born April 6, 1915, in Knox, the son of DeWitt and Esther Gaige Bell, and was a lifelong resident of the town.
He owned and operated the Bell Saw Mill in Knox for over 20 years, retiring in 1980. Before that he was a lumberjack and self-employed farmer.
Mr. Bell was a member of Guilderland Lodge 2480, BPOE, where he was named Elk of the year in 1994. He was a member of the New York State Lumberjack Association, the Helderberg Rod and Gun Club in Knox, and the Senior Citizens Bowling League in Guilderland, and a member and former state champion of the National Association of Black Powder Riflemen.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Sacco Bell; two daughters, Norma Hadsell of Altamont and Thelma Patschureck of Knox; two sons, Richard Bell of Clifton Park and DeWitt Bell of Knox; two step-sons, Charles Sacco of Knox and Joseph Sacco of Arlington, Va; a sister, Themla Finch of Oxford, Ala.; a brother Douglas Bell of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; a step-brother, James Fidler of Knox; and a step-sister, Jeanne Stewart of Rexford. Also survived by nine grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.
His first wife, Helen Cook Bell, died in 1977.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Lucy's Church, Grand Street, Altamont. Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St., Altamont. Burial will be in the Knox Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the food pantry of St. Lucy^s Church, Grand {Street, Altamont, NY 12009.
