Birth

Helen Becker was born October 10, 1913 in West Berne, the daughter of Wilfred H. Becker (1872 - 28 OCT 1930) and Ida Mae Torrey (1878 - 29 MAY 1945). Her brothers were:

  • Randall D Becker (12 DEC 1908 - 23 JAN 1992)
  • Chester Jerome Becker (8 OCT 1910 - 7 MAY 2001) - Chester J. Becker of Delmar

Education

Helen Becker was a 1930 graduate of Schoharie High School and lived in West Berne all her life.

Occupation

Helen Pickett and her husband, Samuel, operated a dairy farm in West Berne for many years before selling the herd in 1981. Mrs. Pickett was also a rural mail carrier for the West Berne Post Office during the 1970s.

HELEN BECKER PICKETT

WEST BERNE — Helen Becker Pickett, 82, of Richard Hill Road, died suddenly Tuesday at the Bassett Hospital in Cobleskill, after being stricken in her residence.

Mrs. Pickett was born Oct. 10, 1913 in West Berne, daughter of the late Wilfred H. and Ida Mae Torrey Becker. She was a 1930 graduate of Schoharie High School and lived in West Berne all her life.

Mrs. Pickett and her husband, Samuel, operated a dairy farm in West Berne for many years before selling the herd in 1981. Mrs. Pickett was also a rural mail carrier for the West Berne Post Office during the 1970s.

She was a member of the Gallupville United Methodist Church. She and her husband were also members of the Schoharie County Dairymen's League. Mrs. Pickett was a member of Gallupville Grange 893, and the national, state and county Grange.

She was married to the late Samuel Pickett from April 5, 1945 until his death April 13, 1991.

Survivors include a brother, Chester J. Becker of Delmar; a niece and two nephews.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Langan Funeral Home, 227 Main St., Schoharie. The Rev. Olof C. Johnson, retired pastor of the Central Bridge United Methodist Church, will officiate. She will be buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Berne.
