He was born April 9, 1881 on Knox Cave Road, Knox, one of four sons of Augusta Allen and Seymour Armstrong. He attended the Knox School and Albany Business College on Washington Ave. in Albany.

Among his many lines of employment, he spent a brief time in the payroll office of the American Locomotive Co. in Schenectady. His stay there was brief as he did not enjoy traveling to and from work in the dark. He also sold insurance aswell as Singer sewing machines and often walked to Voorheesville to make collections.

He worked at the Hagaman Bakery on Madison Ave. in Albany as did his brothers. He met his bride, Ada Elston, at Hagaman's where she was also employed. They were married in the early 1900s.

Their first son, John, was born in Kingston where they operated a bakery. Son William was also born while the family resided in Kingston.

In the fall of 1915 Walter sold the bakery and moved to the farm called Armstrongville on Dunnsville Road. Son Harry was born a month later; In the years to follow, Francis, Charles and Arthur were born. Francis died in infancy during a flu epidemic.

In the spring 1942, his wife Ada, died. In 1945, Walter went into partial retirement. Although he was no longer farming, he built six houses.

Walter Armstrong was affectionately called, "Grandfather" by his family. He sang in the choirs of the Township Methodist Church which is now a Baptist church, and St. John's Lutheran Church. Walter was a man who could outwalk anyone, and at 80 he was still playing baseball with the kids.

Birth

Marshall Allen Armstrong was born in Knox on October, 25, 1878, the son of Seymour W. Armstrong (8/23/1855 - 12/25/1909) and Augusta Olivia Allen (8/5/1851 - 2/5/1937).

Occupation

Marshall was a baker in Kingston, NY, and later ran a bakery on Central Ave. in Albany, NY. After contracting blood poisoning, he closed the bakery and bought a farm on Rte. 20 in Altamont.

Marriage & Children

On December 6, 1906, Marshall married Louise Ruth Tegler (9/7/1885 - 7/30/1952), the daughter of Frederick Paul Tegler and Bertha L. Feger, in Albany. Their children were:
