Additional Media

—Mr. Eliakim Chesebro, of West Township, in attempting to cross the track at VanAernam's crossing, just below the village, Wednesday morning, was struck by the Oneonta Local going east, which cleared the hind wheels from the carriage and split the box of the wagon. Mr. Chesebro saw the train coming, but as he was driving a spirited horse considered he had plenty of time to get across ahead of the train. It was indeed a very narrow escape and Mr. Chesebro is not likely to try the experiment again. This is the same "run" that killed Charles VanAerman and a lady companion at this crossing one year ago the 4th of July last. The train runs very fast at this point, and as the road crosses the track at an angle of about 45 degrees- one is apt to miscalculate the distance.
