Mr. Amato was born in Manhattan on December 16, 1920,[1] lived in Mount Vernon for over 40 years and moved to Knox in 1990.[2] He was the son of Michael and Mary Paladino Amato.

Marriage and Children

Andrew married his wife Lillian Bilodeau (Oct. 31, 1919 - Jan. 23, 2006), the daughter of Augusta and James Bilodeau. Their children were:

  • Robert J. Amato, of Bedford Hills, NY; (married Sandra)
  • Lynne A. Petrone, of Scarsdale, NY (married Joseph)

Occupation

Mr. Amato worked as a liquor salesman for Star Industries in Syosset, NY for over 30 years.[2]

Andrew was a World War II vet.[2]

Andrew died Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany under the care of Community Hospice.[2]

KNOX -- Andrew A. Amato, formerly of Mount Verno, died Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany under the care of Community Hospice. Mr. Amato was born in Manhattan, lived in Mount Vernon for over 40 years and moved to Knox in 1990. He and his family had spent summers in Knox for many years. Mr. Amato worked as a liquor salesman for Star Industries in Syosset, NY for over 30 years. He was a former trustee of Mount Vernon public school board of education, a communicant of St. Ursala Church in Mount Vernon, a member of the Masons and Elks, and a WWII veteran. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants. He is survived by his wife, Lillian A. Amato; a son, Robert J. Amato, of Bedford Hills, NY; a daughter, Lynne A. Petrone, of Scarsdale, NY; three granddaughters, Shelby Amato, Courtney and Ashley Petrone; a sister, Rose Richter, of Gilbert, PA and several nieces and nephews. A mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Lucy's Church, Grand Street, Altamont. Relatives and friends may call at the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, Altamont, Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Interment Knox Cemetery, Knox, NY. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Capital District Chapter, 85 Watervliet Avenue, Albany, NY 12206-2083.

KNOX—Andrew A. Amato, 76, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Tuesday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany under the care of Community Hospice.

Mr. Amato was born Dec 16, 1920 in Manhattan, son of the late Michael and Mary Paladino Amato. After living in Mount Vernon (Westchester Co ) for over 40 years, he moved in 1990 to Knox, where he and his family had spent the summer for a number of years.

Mr Amato was a liquor salesman for Star Industries in Syosset (Nassau Co ) for over 30 years. He was a former member and vice president of the Mount Vernon Board of Education, a communicant of St Ursala Church in Mount Vernon, a member of the Masons and the Elks, and a veteran of World War II, having served as a military policeman in the Army.

He avidly followed the fortunes of the New York Giants football team He was born near Coogan's Buff in Manhattan, where the former New York Giants baseball team played at the old Polo Grounds, and as a be he followed that team as well.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian A. Amato, a son, Robert J. Amato of Bedford Hills (West Chester Co), a daughter, Lynne A. Petrone of Scarsdale (Westchester Co,), a sister, Rose Richter of Gilbert, Pa,: three granddaughters — Shelby Amato, and Courtney and Ashley Petrone; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass will bo held tomorrow (Friday at 10 a.m. at St Lucy's Church, Grand Street, Altamont. Relatives and friends may call between 5 and 8 p m tonight at the Fredendall Funeial Home, 199 Main St., Altamont.

Lillian A. Amato KNOX — Lillian A. Amato died unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at her son's home in Bedford Hills, N.Y. Mrs. Amato was born in New York City, the daughter of the late Augusta and James Bilodeau.

Her husband, Andrew A. Amato, died in 1997.

She is survived by a son, Robert J . Amato and his wife, Sandra, of Bedford Hills, N.Y.; a daughter, Lynne A. Petrone and her husband, Joseph, of Scarsdale, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Shelby Amato, and Courtney and Ashley Petrone; a sister, Edith Cacciola of Sun City, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Her brother, James Bilodeau, died before her. A funeral service will be held Saturday, at 1 p.m. a t the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial will be in Knox Cemetery in the spring.
