Birth

Mr. Turner was born on March 22, 1922,[1] in Berne and was the son of the late Russell and Edith Swart Turner.[2]


Marriage and Children

Mr. Turner married Barbara (Betty) _______ and they had Anna, Barbarajean, Vern A. Turner, and Faith E. Turner.[2]


Occupation

Bernie had worked for Albany Casting Company in Voorheesville for 21 years and more recently with Coca Cola in Albany for 25 years retiring in 1987.[2]


Military Service

He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran having served as a signalman in the Pacific Theatre.[2]


Death

Vernard died suddenly on Sunday, February 24, 2002, at the Stratton VA Hospital.[2]


Burial

Interment will be in Memory's Garden on February 27, 2002.[2]

COLONIE -- Vernard A. (Bernie) Turner, 79, of Colonie, died suddenly on Sunday, February 24, 2002 at the Stratton VA Hospital. Mr. Turner was born in Berne and was the son of the late Russell and Edith Swart Turner. He was a Colonie resident for over fifty years. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran having served as a signalman in the Pacific Theatre. Bernie had worked for Albany Casting Company in Voorheesville for 21 years and more recently with Coca Cola in Albany for 25 years retiring in 1987. Mr. Turner is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Betty) Turner. He is the beloved father of Anna Layou of East Long Meadow, MA, Barbarajean Pedersen of Glenville, Vern A. Turner of Ft. Myers, FL and Faith E. Turner-Trier of Clifton Park; brother of Quentin Turner of Clarksville and Arlene Hurley of Albany. Also survived by nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden. Memorial contributions may be made to Pine Grove Methodist Church, 1580 Central Ave., Albany, NY 12205, in memory of Mr. Turner.
