CLAYTON COOKE
Our little community was saddened last week to hear of the passing of Clayton Cooke (often spelled Clayton Cook) at St. Peter's Hospital on April 8.
"Cookie," as he was affectionately known to many, had been in failing health for some time. In spite of his illness, he managed to maintain his sense of humor and was always looking up. He was a charter member of the Westerlo Volunteer Fire Department and was one of the, original members of the rescue squad. He maintained an active interest in both until failing health forced him to curtail his-activities. He gave much of himself to these civic organizations as long as he was able.
One of the highlights of the school year for the boys and girls in the Stepping Stones Pre-school was to have "Uncle Cookie" give them a guided tour of the firehouse and an opportunity to see the inside of the ambulance and to sit in the driver's seat of the big fire truck. However, the climax was to be given a junior fireman's hat by "Uncle Cookie."
The large gathering who came to pay respects at the viewing and again at the memorial service were truly indicative of the love and esteem his friends and neighbors had for him. Sincere arid heartfelt sympathy is extended to his wife, Marie; daughter, Raye; son, Reid; brother Ralph and to all his loving and concerned grandchildren. May God in His tender loving mercy comfort you all with the joy of knowing you will all meet again.
Reid (Buzzy) Cooke from Mobile, Alabama spent last week here with his mother and sister having been called home due to the passing of his dad, Clayton Cooke.

Mrs. Clayton (Marie) Cooke and her sister, Mrs. Arlene Segar, held an open house on Saturday afternoon and evening to honor their mother, Mrs. Catherine Haner on her 95th birthday. Many of her relatives, friends and neighbors called to congratulate her and to share the delicious refreshments. She was the recipient of many lovely cards and gifts. It is the wish of everyone that she will be privileged to continue to spend her time doing her special handwork, care for her beautiful plants and just enjoy being with her loving, caring family. Truly a long, full and abundant life is a precious gift from God.
