Jerome Ball was born in 1843 to Peter Ball 1798 - D. Aug 29, 1883) and Eve E. Kniskern (B. Dec 8, 1800, D. Nov 22, 1866). He was the youngest of eight children.

Jerome Ball married Isadora A. Settle in about 1869 in Berne. She was born in about 1848 and was the daughter of Edward Settle and Emeline Adams.
