Filkins, Edward Vincent
Birth
Edward Vincent Filkins Esq was born on 7 Mar 1821 at Filkins Hill, East Berne, Albany, NY, son of Richard Filkins and Catherine Angle.
Education
He was educated locally at the Rensselaerville and Knoxville Acacdemies. He read law in Delhi.
Occupation
After completing his studies, he settled in Berne in 1854, where he spent his life practicing his profession with success and distinction. Previously to his entering actively into the law practice, he taught school and filled the office of school commissioner. His law practice was extensive, often being retained on cases which carried him before the higher courts in Albany[1]
Marriage and Children
He married Emma E. Shafer, daughter of Rev. Thomas Lewis Shafer and Eve Werner, on 22 Oct 1856. They had the following children:

Death
He died on 18 Feb 1887[1] at Town of Berne, Albany, NY, at age 65. He was buried 21 Feb 1887 at Beaverdam Cemetery, Town of Berne, Albany, NY. His wife died on September 23, 1894[2]

E. V. Filkins. Esq., died on Sunday at 7 a. m. The funeral was held from the Reformed church on Wednesday at 10:30 a. m.. Sermon by Rev. W. A. Wurtes.
