Obituary

Mrs. Delos Deitz
On Friday, Sept. 8th, a large number of friends and relatives gathered at the Deitz homestead, near South Berne, at the funeral service of Grace Filkins, beloved wife of Delos Deitz. The Rev. John B. Miller of the Berne Lutheran church officiated; and his sympathetic message brought comfort to sorrowing hearts.
Mrs. Deitz was the daughter of Fred H. Filkins of East Berne—the eldest daughter in a family of six children. The death of the mother when the youngest child was but a year old developed in this eldest sister a rare sense of responsibility, and in the home of the Filkins grandparents she shared with a father a tender and loyal minstry. Upon her early marriage her capable service was not less faithfully performed in the home of her husband. A long trial of suffering and weakness was her portion in life; but her patient endurance was a tribute to her Christian faith.
As she lay in quiet rest at the last, many beautiful flowers surrounded the still form, mute witness to the love and sympathy of mourning hearts.
Her father survives her, and also three brothers and two sisters with their families.
In the home of her married life remains her father-in-law, Lozens Deitz, 88 years old on the day of her funeral, her husband and their only son, DeForest Deitz, his wife, and two grandchildren.
Her father, and the brothers and sisters will miss her sympathy and interest; but in the home where for more than thirty years she fill the place of daughter and wife and mother, her absence will be most keenly felt. May those who moun her loss know the blessedness of Divine comfort.
