Howland was a graduate of Richmondville High School and Russell Sage College where he earned his bachelor's degree. [2]

Mr. Maher married Denise Marchand and they had daughter Claire Maher. [2]

Mr. Maher was retired from Albany County Department of Social Services. [2]

Howland was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. [2]

Howland died on Saturday, November 9, 2002 at his residence in East Berne, New York. [2]

Obituary EAST BERNE -- Howland D. Maher, 72, of East Berne, died on Saturday, November 9, 2002 at his residence. He was born in Flushing, N.Y. and was the son of the late Albert and Wilhemina Droge Maher. He was a graduate of Richmondville High School and Russell Sage College where he earned his bachelor's degree. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. Mr. Maher was retired from Albany County Department of Social Services. Howland was the beloved husband of the late Denise Marchand Maher. He is survived by his daughter, Claire Swazey of Seattle, Wash. Funeral services will be Friday at 12 noon at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Avenue). A calling hour will precede the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday. Interment will be in Gerald B. Solomon VA Cemetery.
