Birth

Daniel was born on September 22, 1756 at Haverstraw, Orange County, NY, a son of John Secor and Maria Gerow. [1] His siblings were:

  • Isaac Secor b. August 11, 1751
  • Benjamin Secor b. 1752 in Rockland Co., NY
  • Esther Secor b. September 18, 1758 in Orange Co., NY
  • Annatje Secor b. September 18, 1758 in Orange Co., NY
  • Thryntje Secor b. April 4, 1764 in Rockland Co., NY

Military

Daniel served in the Revolutionary War as a drummer with Cooper's NY Militia regiment. He appeared on the payroll listings for Colonel Cooper’s regiment in 1782 along with Sgt. James Secor and Andrew Secor. The term of his enlistment or whether or not he had numerous enlistments is not available.

Marriage and Children

Daniel married in Rockland County, NY in 1778, Margaret Van Horn who was born in 1758, a daughter of Mathias Van Horn and Eleanor Krom. [1] Daniel and his family settled in Berne at about 1780. [2] Their children were:

  • Abigail Secor b. November 9, 1793
  • Polly Secor b. 1795
  • Christiana Secor b. about 1798
  • Cornelius Secor b. May 14, 1799
  • John F. Secor b. 1799
  • Andrew Secor b. 1802


Death

Margaret died onFebruary 19, 1826. Daniel died on March 21, 1829. Both are buried at the Lake Rural Cemetery in East Berne, NY. [1]
