Obituary

Sandra L. Perrin

WESTERLO — Sandra L. Perrin, a lover of crocheting, gardening, and cooking, always put her family first. “She put everybody else in front of her,” said her daughter, Christina Perrin. “Everything she did, it was always for us kids, and her husband, my father. She had the biggest heart in the entire world.” She died on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. She was 63.

“Growing up, we had friends, and all our friends loved and called our parents Mom and Dad,” Ms. Perrin said. “And, believe it or not, all six of us kids are adopted.” Michael Perrin expressed similar sentiments about his mother. “She always made this house a home for anybody,” he said. Born in Tarrytown on Oct. 13, 1948, Mrs. Perrin was the daughter of the late Carmelo and Lena Patricia Camp Leggio. Mrs. Perrin met her husband-to-be, Martin Perrin, 60 years ago, when they were children growing up in Rockland County. She was 3, and he was 5. “You don’t hear about love like that anymore,” her daughter said.

They started dating when they were 12 and 14, respectively, and they were wed on Dec. 3, 1966. “They used to go to the Harley Rendezvous a lot,” their son said. “She loved riding on the back of his motorcycle.” The Perrins moved to Westerlo in 1987 with their growing family. As a homemaker, Mrs. Perrin enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, needlework, and Bingo. She also worked from home as a tax preparer.

“Everyone knew she did taxes, and she did them very well,” her daughter said. “Everybody called Sandy.” Mrs. Perrin always had an interest in law. “She loved Judge Judy; Law and Order; stuff like that,” her son said. “She was a tax preparer since she was young, so she worked at a law firm at one point; she even served summonses; she had a business with my father back in the ’80s. She always liked the lawyer stuff.” The children recall when the family used to go on camping trips.

“When we were younger, that’s the one thing they always wanted to do,” her son said. The went on trips to North Carolina; South Carolina; Maine; and places around New York State, including Niagara Falls, Fort Ticonderoga, and Roger’s Rock. “We were all over the place,” her son went on. “They loved to take pictures, especially my dad. He always wanted the memory.”
