Tunis was born at about 1842 in New Scotland, a son of Tunis and Eliza Ann Slingerland.

After the death of Phebe, Tunis married Carrie H._____ and moved to Coeymans.

Death
He died on March 26, 1925 at Coeymans Hollow.[4] His widow, Carrie, applied for his pension on April 19, 1928.
