Birth
John was born in Berne at about 1836, the son of Jacob J. Deitz[1]Jacob J. Dietz and Mary Elizabeth Zimmer.[1]
Occupation
His early life was spent on his father's farm. In 1878 he removed to Gloversville, N. Y., where he was engaged in the grocery business for about fifteen years, when he retired to the village of Slingerlands.[1]
Marriage and Children
His wife was Lydia J., daughter of John H. Engel, of Berne, and they had eight children:[1]

- Laura Deitz[1]
- Charles F. Deitz[1]
- Elmer Deitz [1]
- Seward Deitz [1]
- Carrie Deitz[1]
- Adella Deitz[1]
Death
John died at Slingerlands on November 17, 1896 and is buried at Pine Grove Cemetery in Berne.[1]
