Birth
James Palmer was born March 29, 1809[1] in Rensselaerville, Albany County, NY to Jonathan Palmer and Martha Webb. He was one of the older children in a family of eleven.

Occupation
In 1850 James' occupation was recorded as a teamster as was his brother Henry Mackinster Palmer's.[2]
Marriage & Children
On May 29, 1832 at the Reformed Church of Dyse's Manor in Conesville, Schoharie County, NY, James married Huldah Ann Voorhees (B. 1810, D. 1878), whose surname was also spelled Vorris.[2]
They had the following children:

Life
While James was born in Rensselaerville, he moved to Schoharie County as a young man. In 1850 James was living in Gilboa, Schoharie County with his large family and his widowed mother Martha and youngest brother Henry Mackinster Palmer.[2] The 1850 US Census recorded that his mother Martha owned their home which was worth $500. The family's immediate neighbors were James S. Mackey (B. 1820) and his wife Louisa M. Voorhees (B. 1826, D. Jan 21, 1898) who was Huldah's sister. Later in this decade, the Palmers moved to Deposit, Broome County, NY. It was there that James was to die.
Death
James died in May 1857 in Deposit, Broome County, NY. His wife Huldah Ann died two decades later on June 5, 1879 in Deposit, Delaware County, NY and she was buried at Sands Creek Cemetery in Tompkins, Delaware County, NY.
