Life
In 1850 Alexander Brate was living with his parents and older brothers in Westerlo, where his father was a farmer. Living next store was his grandparents, Martin Brate Sr. and Elizabeth.[4] Ten years later, in 1860, the family was living in similar circumstances however Alexander's grandfather had died and he had a younger brother.[5] Alexander then served in the Civil War. After the war, he has not been found in the 1870 US Census, however in 1880 he was in Westerlo working as a stone cutter and living with Francis Brate (B. abt 1815) and his wife Catherine.[6] He was recorded in the 1890 US Veterans Census in Westerlo however no data of his health or service was provided.[7]
Death
Alexander Brate died sometime after 1890.[7]
