Life
In 1880 Thomas Stanton was working as a farm laborer for Peter Ball and his wife Barbara in Berne.[3] In 1890 when the regular census taker recorded the residents of Berne, Thomas was not recorded because he was homeless.[4] The census taker for the veterans census met Thomas and heard this story and recorded him in the 1890 US Veterans with a special note.[4]
Death
Thomas E. Stanton died on January 12, 1893 in Berne and he was buried in Beaverdam Cemetery.[1]
