Life
In 1850, when he was eight years old, he appears on the U.S. Census living with Ephraim Peasley (B. Oct 11, 1801, D. Mar 31, 1880) and his wife, Phebe Baker (B. Dec 9, 1804, D. Nov 10, 1866).[7][8] His connection with the Peasleys is unknown. A decade later Harvey was still living with them but he was recorded as a servant.[4]
In 1890 Harvey was recorded in the US Veterans Census living in Durham, Greene County, NY.[5] This confirms his Civil War Service and records that he had chronic diarrhea as a result of his service and that he was "unfit for duty until ?".[5]
In 1900 he was recorded as an inmate at the New York State Soldiers Home in Bath, Steuben County, NY, where he was healthy enough to be working as the assistant librarian.[9] In this census his birth date was incorrectly recorded as Oct 1838.
