ALTAMONT James W. Gaige, 67, of Lincoln Avenue died Sunday in Albany Memorial Hospital. Mr. Gaige was born in Burlington, Vt. He lived in the Altamont-Voorheesville area most of his life. He graduated from the former Altamont High School in 1945.
He was a heavy-equipment operator for the New York State Thruway Authority for 33 years before retiring in 1987. Mr. Gaige was a life member and past commander of the Helderberg American Legion Post 977. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Gaige was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Mattice Gaige; two sons, James A. Gaige of Altamont and Allan H. Gaige of Knox; four daughters, Linda Haines of Mayfield, Joyce Ableman of Medusa, Jill Hudson of West Fulton, Schoharie County, and Claudia LeClair of Altamont; two brothers, Wayne C.
