Settle, Theodore, was born in the village of Berne, February 24, 1846. The great- grandfather of Theodore Settle migrated to America from Berne, Switzerland, and was one of the pioneer .settlers in the town of Berne (now Knox). Jacob Settle, the grandfather of Theodore, was a native of the town of Knox. He was a harness- maker by trade, which he followed throughout his active life. His last years were spent in the villijge of Berne. He married a Miss Hochstrasser, and they had five children.
