Birth
Jesse Sholtes was born on Aug 26, 1895 at the Sholtes farm on Rock Road, Town of Knox, Albany, NY. His parents were Stanton Sholtes (1856-1929) and Ida Gibbs (1859-1932). He was one of seven children that lived to adulthood, and the youngest.
Education
He was educated at the one room schoolhouse on Rock Road very near the farm.
Occupation
Jesse was a farmer on the family Sholtes farm, and later a machine operator for the Department of Highways.
Marriage & Children
He married Lena Posson, daughter of Frederick R. Posson and Cora Briggs, on Oct. 13, 1917. They had no children. He and Lena Sholtes appeared on the census of 1930 at Town of Knox, Albany, NY, he was a farmer. Some years later, he and Lena purchased a house in Berne Hamlet across from the Berne Reformed Church parsonage. He then left farming, and became a machine operator. Jesse enjoyed fishing. He and brother Friend taught their sister, Alta, to fish in the Foxenkill near their childhood farm. They all enjoyed fishing for Adirondack pike as adults. Jesse was a jovial uncle, and had a ready laugh. He was fun to be around.
Death
Jesse died on Jan 22, 1958 at Berne, Albany, NY. at age 62. He was buried at the Berne and Beaverdam Cemetery, Berne, Albany, NY.
