Birth

Robert Hurst was born in the town of Knox on March 20, 1825. He was a son of Francis Hurst and Magdalene Keenholts. [1]

Occupation

He was a farmer who spent most of his life in Knox where he eventually bought his father’s homestead. He retired in 1887 and removed to Altamont. [1]

Marriage & Children

In 1850 he married Mary Ann Mathias, a daughter of Henry Mathias. [1]
Their children were:

  • Margaret Hurst[1]
  • Ida Hurst[1]
  • David T. Hurst[1]died in 1936 at age 85 and is buried at Mont Pleasant Cemetery in New Salem
  • Walter Hurst[1], died in 1925 and is buried at Mont Pleasant Cemetery in New Salem
  • Alvenus Hurst[1]died in 1931 and is buried at Mont Pleasant Cemetery in New Salem
  • Frank Hurst[1]died in 1927 and is buried at Mont Pleasant Cemetery in New Salem
  • Ira Hurst[1], died at age 10 in 1864 and is buried at Mont Pleasant Cemetery in New Salem.
  • Luella Hurst, deceased[1]

Death

Robert died in 1918 at age 92. His wife died in 1902 at age 73. Both are buried at Mont Pleasant Cemetery in New Salem.
