William L. Gotha of 19B Sheridan Village, Schenectady, husband of the late Bessie Hallenbeck, died Sunday morning, May 26, (1974) at Fairfax, Va.

When he retired from his musical groups and iron work business in Albany, he and Mrs. Gotha moved the [[b:Berne|Berne]] where they made many friends. He continued to do iron work in the area and they conducted a boarding home for elderly women at the home on Main St. They were both faithful members of St. Paul's Lutheran church where he sanf in the choir ansd served as custodian and she was active in the Sunday church school and Lutheran Church WOmen groups. Later they moved to a small apartment in Schenectady and Mrs. Gotha passe away last February.

The Gothas have four children: Marjory Nasholds of Oneonta; William Jr. of West Springfield, Mass.; Millicent Boni of Latham, and Russell of Chicago; also 13 grandchildren.

William L. Gotha, 73, of 250 Poplar Ave., a well-known area barbershop-chorus and church singer, died Friday at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

He was an accountant for 36 years. He retired in 1983 after working for 21 years at Agway Inc. in Westfield. Before that, he worked for 15 years at International Harvester Corp. of Syracuse, N.Y., and West Springfield.

He was a member of the Springfield Chordsmen, and was treasurer of the barbershop chorus for seven years. He was named barbershopper of the year in 1990.

Born in Albany, N.Y., he was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y., where he received a bachelor's degree.

He moved to West Springfield in 1960, and was a member of Mittineague Methodist Church and its choir. He also sang in the choirs of the Springfield Catholic Diocese and St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
