+ | KNOX -- Ronald A. Mason, USMC (Ret), 71, died Friday, March 26, 1999 at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady. Mr. Mason was born in Albany and graduated from Albany High School in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Omaha while in the Marine Corp. He served in Wold War II, Korea and Vietnam, retiring in 1969 as a Colonel after 27 years of service. He served at the Pentagon with the Joint Chiefs of Staff and had received the Bronze Star for bravery and valor and the Purple Heart for injuries he received in Korea. He was one of the the 'Chosin Few'. He entered Georgetown University Law School following his military career and received his law degree. He practiced law in Albany and started his own practice in Knox from which he retired recently. He was the first republican elected in the Town of Knox and served as Town Judge for two terms. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Duanesburg and had served on its Vestry, the N.Y.S. Magistrates Association, the Guilderland Elks Club, the Helderberg Kiwanis Club, the Boyd Hilton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Altamont and was active in the Marine Corp Retired Officer's Association, the U.S.S. Leyte CV-32, and H3-1. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Noppa Mason; one son, Jeffrey A. Mason of Knox; one daughter, Margaret L. Mason-Donnelly of St. Louis, MO; one sister, Dorothy Diane Yacowenia of St. Johnsville, NY; four grandchildren, Brian, Matthew, Kaitlin and Patrick Donnelly. He was predeceased by his first wife, Phyllis L. Mason in 1988, a son, Ronald A. Mason, Jr. in 1979 and a brother, Robert D. Mason in 1998. Born about 1928 in Albany, New York.[1]
Education
Mr. Mason graduated from Albany High School in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Omaha while in the Marine Corps. After retiring from the military, he received a law degree from Georgetown Law School.[1]
Marriage and Children
Ron married twice. His first wife, Phyllis L. Sieker, died in 1988. His second wife was Joyce Noppa. He had two sons and a daughter. They are: Ronald A. Mason Jr. and Jeffrey A. Mason. His daughter is Margaret L. Mason-Donnelly of St. Louis, Missouri.[1]
Occupation
He practiced law in Albany and started his own practice in Knox.[1]
Military Service
He served in World War II; in Korea, where he was one of the "Chosin Few"; and in Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star for bravery and valor and the Purple Heart for injuries he received in Korea. Ron died March 26, 1999 at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady.[1]

Mr. Mason was among the first Republicans elected in the town of Knox, where he served as town justice for two terms. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Duanesburg, and of the vestry of the church; the New York State Magistrates Association; the Guilderland Elks Club; the Helderberg Kiwanis Club; and Boyd Hilton Post 7062, VFW, in Altamont. He was active in the Marine Corps Retired Officers' Association. He had served on the U.S.S. Leyte (CV-32 Company) and H3-1 Company. Following retirement, he was active in organizing reunions for fellow veterans of those units. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Noppa Mason; a son, Jeffrey A. Mason of Knox; a daughter, Margaret L. Mason-Donnelly of St. Louis, Missouri; a sister, Dorothy Diane Yacowenia of St. Johnsville (Fulton Co.); four grandchildren--Brian, Matthew, Kaitlin, and Patrick Donnelly. His first wife, Phyllis L.
