Birth
William Mahar was born in Westerlo on May 12, 1821 a son of Patrick Mahar and Phebe Ten Eyck. He was a brother to John Maher who also served in the Civil War.

William married Ann ____, who was born in Ireland in about 1841, at about 1869 and lived in Westerlo.[1] William and Ann had the following children:
