Birth
William Henry Finehout was born on April 25, 1828 or 1827 Isaac M. Finehout (B. abt 1800, D. abt 1855) and Sarah Wheeler (B. abt 1799, M. abt 1819, D. after 1860).[1][2][3] He had a younger brother named John Tyler Finehout (B. June 19, 1840)[2][3] and a younger sister Amanda Finehout (B. abt 1838)[3][4]. Their surname was also been spelled Fineout.

On October 28, 1855, William married Catharine McFarlane (B. abt 1827, D. Feb 15, 1893).[1][5] They had one child:

Life
John was born in about 1828, in 1850 he was living with his parents, younger brother John and younger sister Amanda in New Scotland, Albany County, NY.[3] His father Isaac died within the next decade. In 1855, William married Catharine and in 1860 they were recorded living in Coeymans where William was working as a day laborer.[4] On October 15, 1862 William enlisted in Company H of the 177th NY Infantry with his brother John. They served together until they both mustered out on September 10, 1863. During their service, William was shot in the right leg and John was shot in the face, but both survived and returned to Westerlo, where they would live for the remainder of their lives.[8][5] In the 1870 US Census William and Catharine were living in Westerlo where William was working as a day laborer.[11] In 1880, they were living in Westerlo with their young daughter Elsie and Olive E. Vandenberg (B. about 1844), who as a boarder. William was a laborer and reportedly had "neuralgia".[6] This same year on August 16, 1880, William filed for an invalid pension for his Civil War service.[9] In 1890, William and his brother John were both recorded in the US Veterans Census living in Westerlo. In that record William recorded that he had been shot in the right leg.[8]
Physical Appearance
William had a light complexion, dark hair and grey eyes.[1]
Death
On March 28, 1892, William died of Apoplexy in Dormansville, Albany Co, NY.[1] He was buried in Hannacroix Rural Cemetery in Westerlo.[1] After his death on April 20, 1892, his wife Catharine filed as a widow for his Civil War pension.[9]
