Alexander Swartwout was born in Rensselaerville in June of 1824, a son of Miner C. Swartout and Susanna Cornish.

He married at Rensselaerville on July 8, 1846,Parmelia Parker who was born at about 1822 and moved to Fallsburg, Sullivan County. They had the following children:

Death

Alexander died on March 26, 1902 at Hurleyville, Sullivan Co., NY and was buried at the Hurleyville Cemetery.


Obituary

Alexander E. Swarthout died in Hurleyville (Sullivan Co.), NY on 26 March 1902. He was a veteran of the Civil War, serving with Company C, 143rd New York Volunteers. His passing was noted on page 3 of the Orange County (NY) Press on Friday, April 4, 1902: "Our Hurleyville correspondent writes that Mr. A. E. Swarthout, and aged soldier, passed away Wednesday, March 26th at Hurleyville, aged 87 years, 8 months and 20 days. He leaves a wife who is near 80 years old; also three sons and two daughters. Interment was at Hurleyville cemetery."
