Peter Charles Bassler was born August 27, 1906, in Berne. He was the son of Charles D. Bassler (1874-1950) and Elsie Schoonmaker (1876-1962). His siblings were:

Occupation
In his early years Peter Bassler was a very active trapper as were many boys of that time period. Trapping was a way to make extra money. He drove truck for Everett Schoonmaker before he started his own trucking business transporting milk. He finished his working career with Helderberg Bluestone.
Marriage & Children
Peter married Sarah Esther Weidman on December 16, 1930. This union produced four children:

- Eleanor Bassler - Eleanor Bassler of Palo Alto, Calif.

Death
Peter died on February 16, 2000, at his home in Berne and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.

BERNE — Peter C. Bassler, 93, died peacefully Feb. 16, 2000, at his home in Berne.
He was born Aug. 27, 1906 on the Bassler family farm in Berne, son of the late Charles and Elsie Schoonmaker Bassler, and was a direct descendent of Frederick Bassler, who was one of the original settlers of Berne in the 1750's.
For several years, he operated his own trucking business, transporting milk from the Hilltowns to Schenectady. Later, he worked at Helderberg Bluestone in East Berne, from which he retired.
He was a member of the former Beaverdam Reformed Church in West Berne and, later, the First Reformed Church in Berne, where he had served on the consistory. Mr. Bassler enjoyed the outdoors, and spent a great deal of time in his gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Weidman Bassler, whom he married Dec. 16,1930; two daughters, Eleanor Bassler of Palo Alto, Calif., and Ruth Lomasney and her husband, R. Timothy, of Gales Ferry, Conn.; two sons, Fred Bassler and his wife, Janice, of Berne, and John E. Bassler and his wife, Chrystal, of Berne; a sister, Clara Hatcher of Selkirk; six grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren.
Services will be private. Arrangements are by the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Reformed Church of Berne Memorial Fund, Berne, NY 12023.
