He was a firefighter with the Albany Fire Department for more than 20 years and was a lieutenant at the time of his retirement in 1972. He had formerly been employed at Williams Press, Garrity Lumber Co. and was a bartender at Horan's Tavern in Albany.[1]

Obituary
John E. "Whitey" DeNyse, 65, of Knox Cave Road, died Saturday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital in Albany after a brief illness. Mr. DeNyse was born in Albany. He had been a lifelong resident of the Capital Region. He was a firefighter with the Albany Fire Department for more than 20 years and was a lieutenant at the time of his retirement in 1972. He had formerly been employed at Williams Press, Garrity Lumber Co. and was a bartender at Horan's Tavern in Albany. Mr. DeNyse was a World War II and Korea War Marine veteran. He was the widower of Esther Bair DeNyse. Survivors include two sons, John P. DeNyse of Selkirk and Donald W. DeNyse of Delanson; a sister, Corrine "Connie" Lindale of South Bethlehem; and three grandchildren. The service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Philip J. Frederick Funeral Home, 16 Manning Square, Albany. Burial will be in Memory's Garden in Colonie. Calling hours will be 5-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
