Birth
William H. Bogardus was born on June 30, 1845[1] [2] in Berne[3] to John I. Bogardus (B. June 7, 1805, D. June 8, 1880) and Mary E. Schultes (B. Mar 22, 1809, D. May 27, 1895).[1] He had an older brother Charles B. Bogardus.[3]

Death
William died in the Civil War after having been taken prisoner at Cold Harbor on June 3, 1864 and sent to the Salisbury prison in N.C.[2] The exact date of his death is unknown. Robert Keating in the book Carnival of Blood says that he was missing in action on June 3, 1864 at Cold harbor and that no further information is available.
