Birth

Timothy McCarty was born between 1835 and 1840 in Berne to James McCarty.[1] Unfortunately little is known about the family.

Additional Remarks:Enlisted at the age of 21 to serve three years [2] He and his friend from Berne, Joseph B. Northrup, who had enlisted with him a week earlier both drowned in West Troy (now Watervliet), Albany Co.

Born in Ireland, Age 21, Single,Farmer, Gray eyes, Black hair, Dark complexion, 5'6" tall.[3]

Death

Timothy McCarty and his friend Joseph B. Northrup both drowned at West Troy, September 21, 1862, and Timothy was buried in Berne.[4]

TIMOTHY McCARTY, enlisted in Company I, Sixty-first Regiment, September 15, 1862, and was drowned at West Troy, September 21, 1862. Buried in Bern.

Note: Joseph B. Northup, with whom he enlisted a week earlier, drowned with him.
