Birth

Alfred was born about 1897 in Gloversville, New York.[1]

Marriage and Children

Mr. Dence married Edna Seibert and had two sons and a daughter. The sons were David and Merrill Dence. His daughter is Wilma Dense.[1]

Occupation

After graduation from the seminary, the Rev. Dence served in churches in Troy; Northville, Fulton County; Cincinnatus, Cortland County; and Chicago. He retired from the First Baptist Church in Corinth. He served as interim pastor in Indian Lake and Gloversville.[1]

Military Service

He was in the Army in World War I.[1]

Death

Rev. Dence died July 12, 1993 in South Westerlo, New York.[1]


Burial

A service was held for Rev. Dense at 11 a.m. on July 15, 1993 in the First Baptist Church in Westerlo, with burial in the family cemetery in Wells.[1]

Obituary

The Rev. Alfred A. Dence, 96, of South Westerlo died Monday at home. He was born in Gloversville and was an Army veteran of World War I. After graduation from the seminary, the Rev. Dence served in churches in Troy; Northville, Fulton County; Cincinnatus, Cortland County; and Chicago. He retired from the First Baptist Church in Corinth. He served as interim pastor in Indian Lake and Gloversville. He moved to South Westerlo in 1974 to live with his son. He repaired and caned chairs. The Rev. Dence was a member of the First Baptist Church in Westerlo. He was the widower of Edna Seibert Dence. Survivors include two sons, David Dence of South Westerlo and Merrill Dence of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; a daughter, Wilma Johnsen of Wells, Hamilton County; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church in Westerlo, with burial in the family cemetery in Wells. Calling hours will be 7-9 tonight in the Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville, Greene County. Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Westerlo Building Fund in care of Larry Gardner, Westerlo, NY 12193.
